Teeth Whitening

Here in Waterloo, a cup of coffee, tea, or red wine is a daily indulgence we can all appreciate. Many of our patients enjoy these tasty beverages, and we can’t blame them! But if you’re a regular coffee or wine drinker and you’ve found that your teeth aren’t as white as you’d like, you may want to visit Dr. Ashraf for a cosmetic teeth whitening treatment!

White Teeth are Happy Teeth

Numerous studies have found that people find white teeth attractive. Studies commissioned by leading teeth whitening product companies found that people with white teeth were more likely to be hired by an employer, make a higher salary, and even have good luck on a first date.

While having white teeth isn’t a guarantee that your dental health is in good shape, you are more likely to reap psychological, social, and professional benefits if your smile sparkles.

In-Office Whitening Treatments

At his Waterloo dental office, Dr. Ashraf offers in-office whitening treatments to help patients attain the beautiful smile that they’ve always dreamed of having. Whitening treatments work by bleaching the discoloring stains on your teeth, minimizing the appearance of brown or yellow spots, and creating a naturally vibrant-looking smile.

The bleaching treatment that we use is safe, effective, and will not cause damage to your enamel or gums. Furthermore, our dentist has participated in a number of cosmetic dentistry-oriented training courses and programs to hone his skills to provide long-lasting results. At Dr. K. Ashraf Dentistry, you can trust that your smile is in trusted and experienced hands.

While it’s normal for patients to experience some sensitivity after treatment, our goal is to keep discomfort to a minimum during and following teeth whitening treatment. If you already have sensitive teeth and are worried about teeth whitening treatments aggravating your symptoms, there’s no need to worry – our staff is trained to provide treatments that cause very little or no pain at all to sensitivities. That way, everyone can enjoy the positive lifestyle changes that come with having whiter teeth!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is teeth whitening painful?
Can whitening damage your teeth?
Can I whiten my teeth at home?
Will teeth whitening work on crowns?
Is teeth whitening painful?

Teeth whitening is a non-surgical, pain-free treatment. Dr. Ashraf will use a local anesthetic to numb your teeth and gums before the procedure, ensuring you don’t experience any discomfort. If your teeth or gums are especially sensitive to bleaching, he can use additional numbing agents to help you feel comfortable.

Can whitening damage your teeth?

Tooth enamel is the hardest tissue in the human body, so whitening treatment won’t damage your teeth. However, it’s crucial to visit a dentist for professional teeth whitening instead of choosing an over-the-counter product, as these are inconsistent and not always safe. By seeing Dr. Ashraf, you can ensure that you’re receiving a properly measured concentration of bleaching and avoid any negative side effects.

Can I whiten my teeth at home?

There are many take-home teeth whitening kits available. Though some are available over-the-counter, we recommend avoiding these products and visiting your dentist instead. Dr. Ashraf can ensure that you choose a safe, comfortable whitening treatment that produces the results you expect.

Will teeth whitening work on crowns?

Unfortunately, whitening treatments have no effect on porcelain or most bonding materials, so you can’t whiten a dental crown. Similarly, the bleaching gel won’t work on dentures, veneers, or dental implants either. If you have any of these restorations, make sure to brush your teeth and floss every day to avoid stains and discoloration.

Welcome Back

Life has been anything but normal this spring and we sincerely hope you and your family are in good health. We are happy to inform you that we are now able to once again provide dental care for you and your family. The Ministry of Health has lifted the restrictions placed back in March. While many things have changed since then, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your health and safety. Our office has always followed strict infection control standards and in order to keep us all protected during this pandemic and in the future, we have updated our protocols. When we see you at your next appointment, things will be a little different.

• We will ask some screening questions before your appointment and you’ll be asked those same questions again when you’re in the office.

• You may be asked to wait outside our office or in your car and call us when you arrive and then wait for a call back to let you know when you can enter the office.

• We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the clinic. There are more dispensers around the office for you to use as needed. As well, you will be provided some gloves to wear. We recommend that you bring your own mask to wear prior to entering the clinic.

• Our waiting room will no longer offer magazines or children’s toys since those items are difficult to fully disinfect.

• Appointments will be spaced out to allow for physical distancing between patients. That might mean less flexibility for scheduling your appointment, but it will also reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

• You may be surprised that we’re wearing more protective gear – such as masks, face shields, gowns – than we normally do during your visit.

Rest assured, all these procedures are designed to create the safest environment for you, other patients and our team. We have undergone some renovations during this time. All operatory suites have been fully enclosed with glass windows and doors. This will ensure that all aerosols will be contained in the operatory. Prior to COVID-19, we had already installed Hepa filtration systems in all operatories and waiting areas. These systems are from Surgically Clean Air.

We look forward to seeing you again. If you have any questions, please let us know. To make an appointment, call our office at 519-725-9585 or email us at info@ashrafdentistry.ca.

Thank you for patience and loyalty throughout this ordeal. We value your trust and look forward to welcoming you back!

Sincerely,

Dr K Ashraf and the whole Dental Team.
