4 Oral Hygiene Tips For The New Year

December 28, 2017Dr. K AshrafDental Health

The new year is here and now is the perfect time to improve your oral hygiene habits. If you’ve been slacking on keeping up with your brushing and flossing, there’s no better time to start than right now by making it your New Year’s resolution. Keeping up with a good dental hygiene routine can help prevent cavities, gum disease, and eventual tooth loss. Dr. Ashraf is dedicated to helping patients keep their teeth healthy and strong by providing routine cleanings and checkups.

Oral Hygiene Tips for The New Year

Start the new year in the best way possible by improving your dental hygiene. By using these simple tips and listening to your Waterloo dentist, you can help prevent serious damage to your smile. Dental tips to help keep your smile healthy this new year include:

Make Oral Care Entertaining: Regular brushing and flossing can sometimes feel like a chore, so try making it a more entertaining part of your daily routine by using apps on your phone or timing it using a favorite song. There are several free apps you can download on your smartphone to help make sure you are brushing for a full two minutes and help entertain you or your kids while performing this routine task.

Develop Good Habits: Making brushing and flossing a part of your daily routine is an important habit to develop. Using mouthwash or even just rinsing your mouth with water after eating lots of sugar or foods that might be particularly damaging can also help protect your teeth and gums from cavities or gum disease.

Monitor What You Eat: Eating more dental-friendly foods such as fibrous vegetables will help protect your smile. Avoiding foods high in sugar and certain acids prevents cavities, keeping your teeth strong and healthy.

Go to the Dentist: Visiting our Waterloo dentist twice a year for cleanings and checkups can help us catch early warning signs of oral health issues. A deep cleaning gets rid of plaque and tartar, preventing gum disease which can cause serious issues for your smile if left untreated.
Start the new year off on the right food by visiting Dr. Ashraf for a checkup. Our Waterloo dentist can identify trouble spots and help you develop an oral hygiene plan that will prevent serious damage to your smile down the line.

Welcome Back

Life has been anything but normal this spring and we sincerely hope you and your family are in good health. We are happy to inform you that we are now able to once again provide dental care for you and your family. The Ministry of Health has lifted the restrictions placed back in March. While many things have changed since then, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your health and safety. Our office has always followed strict infection control standards and in order to keep us all protected during this pandemic and in the future, we have updated our protocols. When we see you at your next appointment, things will be a little different.

• We will ask some screening questions before your appointment and you’ll be asked those same questions again when you’re in the office.

• You may be asked to wait outside our office or in your car and call us when you arrive and then wait for a call back to let you know when you can enter the office.

• We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the clinic. There are more dispensers around the office for you to use as needed. As well, you will be provided some gloves to wear. We recommend that you bring your own mask to wear prior to entering the clinic.

• Our waiting room will no longer offer magazines or children’s toys since those items are difficult to fully disinfect.

• Appointments will be spaced out to allow for physical distancing between patients. That might mean less flexibility for scheduling your appointment, but it will also reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

• You may be surprised that we’re wearing more protective gear – such as masks, face shields, gowns – than we normally do during your visit.

Rest assured, all these procedures are designed to create the safest environment for you, other patients and our team. We have undergone some renovations during this time. All operatory suites have been fully enclosed with glass windows and doors. This will ensure that all aerosols will be contained in the operatory. Prior to COVID-19, we had already installed Hepa filtration systems in all operatories and waiting areas. These systems are from Surgically Clean Air.

We look forward to seeing you again. If you have any questions, please let us know. To make an appointment, call our office at 519-725-9585 or email us at info@ashrafdentistry.ca.

Thank you for patience and loyalty throughout this ordeal. We value your trust and look forward to welcoming you back!

Sincerely,

Dr K Ashraf and the whole Dental Team.
