Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

At Dr. K. Ashraf Dentistry, we can integrate platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) into your treatment plan to expedite the healing process and improve recovery time. Utilizing components from a small sample of your own blood, we can integrate PRP therapy into a variety of restorative procedures. What’s more natural than using your own blood to activate a more rapid healing response?

What is the PRP Process?

The entire process is very simple and adds little to no extra time to dental procedures. We start by taking a small sample of your blood and using our specialized centrifuge to separate and concentrate your blood platelets.

We apply these platelets as a thin film or gel depending on which dental procedure we are performing. When applied to surgical sites, the platelet-rich plasma activates your body’s natural growth factors and stem cells to improve clotting while promoting a faster healing process.

Who is a Candidate for PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma is a great option for patients that plan to have a tooth extraction, dental implant surgery, or a bone or tissue graft. Most patients are great candidates for PRP therapy. If you have difficulty healing, PRP is an effective way to encourage healing and procedure success. The best way to find out if you are a good candidate is during your consultation with Dr. Ashraf.

What Sets Us Apart

At Dr. K. Ashraf Dentistry, we provide a number of restorative procedures that we can pair with PRP therapy including dry socket prevention and dental implants. If you have anxiety about your next dental visit, we can also provide safe and effective sedation dentistry. No matter your current oral health, we are here to help. We believe everyone has the potential for a beautiful, new smile. Schedule a visit with Dr. Ashraf today.

What is platelet-rich plasma?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) harnesses your body’s natural healing power to help you recover quicker from a procedure. Plasma is the liquid component of your blood that contains water and protein, while platelets help your blood to clot and are essential to the healing process.

Dr. Ashraf can extract a blood sample from you and isolate the platelet-rich plasma to use for healing. The plasma is injected at the site of the procedure.

Are platelet-rich plasma injections covered by insurance?
Unfortunately, most PRP injections aren’t covered by insurance. PRP therapy isn’t necessary for your dental procedures even though it can speed up the healing process noticeably. Insurance companies generally don’t cover the costs of elective procedures.

If you’re concerned about affording PRP therapy, contact our office by calling 519-725-9585 and we can discuss your options with you.

How is platelet-rich plasma prepared?
The platelet-rich plasma process begins when Dr. Ashraf draws a small amount of blood from your body at the time of your procedure. This blood is placed in a centrifuge device that can isolate the PRP from your blood.

After your procedure, the PRP is injected into the site. This helps that specific area to heal quicker.

Are platelet-rich plasma injections safe?
Yes, platelet-rich plasma injections are safe. PRP therapy uses the blood from your own body, so there’s no risk of an allergic reaction from it. PRP uses the natural healing processes of your own body for your benefit.

It’s important to make sure you eat before your procedure because Dr. Ashraf will be drawing blood. You may feel lightheaded if you’re improperly nourished at the time.

Welcome Back

Life has been anything but normal this spring and we sincerely hope you and your family are in good health. We are happy to inform you that we are now able to once again provide dental care for you and your family. The Ministry of Health has lifted the restrictions placed back in March. While many things have changed since then, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your health and safety. Our office has always followed strict infection control standards and in order to keep us all protected during this pandemic and in the future, we have updated our protocols. When we see you at your next appointment, things will be a little different.

• We will ask some screening questions before your appointment and you’ll be asked those same questions again when you’re in the office.

• You may be asked to wait outside our office or in your car and call us when you arrive and then wait for a call back to let you know when you can enter the office.

• We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the clinic. There are more dispensers around the office for you to use as needed. As well, you will be provided some gloves to wear. We recommend that you bring your own mask to wear prior to entering the clinic.

• Our waiting room will no longer offer magazines or children’s toys since those items are difficult to fully disinfect.

• Appointments will be spaced out to allow for physical distancing between patients. That might mean less flexibility for scheduling your appointment, but it will also reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

• You may be surprised that we’re wearing more protective gear – such as masks, face shields, gowns – than we normally do during your visit.

Rest assured, all these procedures are designed to create the safest environment for you, other patients and our team. We have undergone some renovations during this time. All operatory suites have been fully enclosed with glass windows and doors. This will ensure that all aerosols will be contained in the operatory. Prior to COVID-19, we had already installed Hepa filtration systems in all operatories and waiting areas. These systems are from Surgically Clean Air.

We look forward to seeing you again. If you have any questions, please let us know. To make an appointment, call our office at 519-725-9585 or email us at info@ashrafdentistry.ca.

Thank you for patience and loyalty throughout this ordeal. We value your trust and look forward to welcoming you back!

Sincerely,

Dr K Ashraf and the whole Dental Team.
