  • The dentist and staff can provide valuable information and advice.

List of questions to ask your dentist

Let’s discuss important questions that you should not miss during your first dental appointment.

Is there any information to share with my doctor from our visit?

By looking at your mouth, a dentist can identify sinus infections, vitamin deficiencies, and other severe health issues like heart disease and diabetes. If you have any concerns, you will be asked to speak with your doctor.

How is my overall oral health?

Your oral health affects your overall health. If you have plaque, bad breath, tooth decay, or other untreated problems, your dentist will recommend the proper treatment.

Which oral hygiene tools and products should I use to achieve a bright, healthy smile?

Your dentist can recommend tools and products to optimize your overall dental health based on your teeth’s health and structure. So, this question is a must ask.

How to prevent future dental health issues?

The purpose of this question is to identify potential issues so that you can take steps to avoid them, causing less pain and spending less money in the future on them.

What are all the services offered? Which areas do you specialize in?

Do not hesitate to ask about your dentist’s qualifications. You will also find out if your dentist is up to date on the latest technologies and advancements. When not aware of this and landed in the wrong hands, your entire mouth can suffer greatly.

What are some solutions to overcome dental anxiety?

The dentist’s role extends to putting the patient in the right frame of mind. If you are afraid or anxious before your treatment, the dentist must be able to calm you down.

Should I try a professional tooth whitening treatment or an at-home whitening kit?

Each patient will have a different case depending on the plaque build-up level and teeth coloration. Getting to know the right solution will help you save a lot of money.

How often should I receive a dental cleaning?

Depending on your oral health and other teeth-related issues, your dentist may recommend how frequently you should schedule a visit. For some, it could be once every six months; for others, it might be once a year.

Do you offer dental care for children? And how do you accommodate children who are fearful of the dentist?

Wouldn’t it be amazing to find a dental practice in Waterloo that caters to people of all ages? Not only will you be able to experience the dental services before implementing them on your kids, but you will also save a lot of time searching for a paediatric dentist.

Do you offer emergency dental services?

Emergencies can happen at any time. Should such a situation arise, you would want to know if there is a dentist on hand. That way, you can be assured of availability and reliability.

List of services to expect from your dental office:

When searching for a new dental clinic, be sure that they offer the following services. This is an indication that the dental clinic is well-rounded, offering a wide range of modern methods in the dental industry.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) may be offered to patients after dental surgery. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is often used in wound healing and tissue regeneration after dental procedures like bone grafts, dental implants, tooth removal, etc. In PRP therapy, the Platelet Rich Plasma is taken from the patient’s blood and injected into the affected area or tissue to speed up the healing process.

CEREC® Restorations

CEREC -Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics is a popular choice by a dentist to hide a patient’s discolored or misshapen tooth. The CEREC procedure is fast, simple, technology-aided, and precise. Your dentist would tell you all the benefits of CEREC before beginning the procedure. Once the dentist prepares the tooth for treatment, a 3D CEREC camera takes a photo of it. The image is then run through systems to create a 3D representation. Then the 3D image is milled out of a ceramic block, which is bonded to your tooth. Since the entire procedure happens through computer-aided design, the chance for errors is very low.

Botox Therapeutics for TMJ, migraines, clenching, grinding teeth

Botox therapeutics reduces abnormal muscle contractions and helps relax the jaw. It also temporarily prevents nerve cell signals from reaching your muscles, which helps treat TMJ, migraines, grinding teeth, and clenching.

Sedation dentistry with an onsite anesthesiologist

In dentistry, a sedation dentist uses medication to make patients feel sedated or calm during dental procedures.

Cosmetic Dentistry services

Cosmetic dentistry is a particular service that focuses on improving the appearance and function of a patient’s smile. It includes treatments like dental implants, dental veneers, teeth whitening, and more.

Pediatric dentistry

A pediatric dentist is a friend to both parents and children alike. This branch of dentistry deals with children between the ages of 0 and 18.

Now that you have the essential checklist, you can use it to look for the best dental practice in Waterloo.

Welcome Back

Life has been anything but normal this spring and we sincerely hope you and your family are in good health. We are happy to inform you that we are now able to once again provide dental care for you and your family. The Ministry of Health has lifted the restrictions placed back in March. While many things have changed since then, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your health and safety. Our office has always followed strict infection control standards and in order to keep us all protected during this pandemic and in the future, we have updated our protocols. When we see you at your next appointment, things will be a little different.

• We will ask some screening questions before your appointment and you’ll be asked those same questions again when you’re in the office.

• You may be asked to wait outside our office or in your car and call us when you arrive and then wait for a call back to let you know when you can enter the office.

• We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the clinic. There are more dispensers around the office for you to use as needed. As well, you will be provided some gloves to wear. We recommend that you bring your own mask to wear prior to entering the clinic.

• Our waiting room will no longer offer magazines or children’s toys since those items are difficult to fully disinfect.

• Appointments will be spaced out to allow for physical distancing between patients. That might mean less flexibility for scheduling your appointment, but it will also reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

• You may be surprised that we’re wearing more protective gear – such as masks, face shields, gowns – than we normally do during your visit.

Rest assured, all these procedures are designed to create the safest environment for you, other patients and our team. We have undergone some renovations during this time. All operatory suites have been fully enclosed with glass windows and doors. This will ensure that all aerosols will be contained in the operatory. Prior to COVID-19, we had already installed Hepa filtration systems in all operatories and waiting areas. These systems are from Surgically Clean Air.

We look forward to seeing you again. If you have any questions, please let us know. To make an appointment, call our office at 519-725-9585 or email us at info@ashrafdentistry.ca.

Thank you for patience and loyalty throughout this ordeal. We value your trust and look forward to welcoming you back!

Sincerely,

Dr K Ashraf and the whole Dental Team.
